Sierra Leone Grammar School Old Boys Association is a close community comprised of Regentonians and their supporters bound by the ethos of giving back and supporting each other. We are the Sierra Leone Grammar School Old Boys Association (SLGSOBA).
With 175 great years behind our institution, we are dedicated to empowering the future SLGS graduates for tomorrow’s world.
As proud graduates and supporters of SLGS, we have been empowered to give back to the institution that motivated us to become legacy builders via our various professions and communities worldwide. We are currently represented in Sierra Leone, USA and UK and run local community events, health initiatives and fundraising programmes to continue our ethos of giving back and empowering Sierra Leone Grammar School for tomorrow’s world.

Our pilot ‘Innovation’ programme for this academic year 2019/20 is currently running and ,Our aims are to ensure every pupil develops some STEM skills
The STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and math – are key to establishing and
continually improving a future-facing country’s infrastructure
and economy. SLGS is committed to becoming a
STEM centre of excellence on both a regional and global scale, enhancing transferable skills in students such as problem solving, collaboration, critical thinking and numeracy. Ensuring our
SLGS learners are empowered with cutting edge
scientific knowledge considerably increases their
chances of thriving in tomorrow’s modern world.
To capitalize on the massive benefits of STEM and compete on a global level, our science facilities desperately need modernizing. We have launched a pilot Innovation programme for the 2020/21 academic year, immersing our students in STEM learning all we need now is an environment for these exceptional pupils to flourish. Completely modernized science facilities are currently at the development stage, replacing our outdated, crumbling classrooms with spacious, fully equipped and state-of-the-art spaces. Concept designs and costing are complete, funding is underway, and with your support, SLGS is set to become a beacon for scientific education in Sierra Leone.
Your donations have transformed SLGS’s information and communications technology (ICT) facilities. We have established the first Cisco Net Academy School in Sierra Leone, giving our young innovators and their teachers free access to their world-renowned ICT Curriculum.
Our modernized computer lab now boasts the latest programmes and apps, and virtual classroom skills have helped boost even our youngest students. With the generosity of supporters from the UK, Atlanta, Freetown and the school’s PTA, we have strengthened the IT backbone of SLGS - its wireless network. We installed a dedicated T1 fibre internet connection into the campus.
Ekor Fraser, UK Alumni, has produced a full secure network design and configured all of the equipment. 200 wired and 18 wireless access points are being installed across the school, in the Peyton and Frank Wood buildings. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has made the school’s increased digital literacy and virtual learning infrastructure invaluable. SLGS was able to switch to online classes within a week of the Government’s initial lockdown announcement, and could draw on teaching staff who continue to enjoy some of the best digital training in the region.
As part of our commitment to build the School of the Future, another area that is being completely transformed is our school library. Enabled by your support, the library has been modernized to allow for more spacious study conditions and a refreshed collection of books. With clean modern facilities, internet connectivity, a wider range of text books and dedicated study spaces, your donations continue to have an impact on the richness of education available to SLGS’s pupils.
We also accept donated books, from academic texts to the classics of world literature, as we always seek to make our library stronger. We ask that books are complete and in good condition. To find out how to donate books to SLGS, please click here.
Another area in need of renovation is our school’s sporting equipment. SLGS has a strong engagement with team sports, from football to cricket and athletics. We also boast swimming facilities - but across the board, these are in need of updating.
From kits to our sporting infrastructure itself, your support is strengthening team sports at SLGS, meaning our pupils can enjoy the health, social and competitive benefits of getting active.
The purpose is to enhance Sierra Loen Grammar School pupils’ appreciation and commitment to personal accountability, transparency, sense of responsibility and sense of citizenship and service to community and country.
We seek to nurture and develop leadership skills in students within Sierra Leone for their future roles in government, academia, business, community and family life.
The SLGS Gifted and Talented (GaT) scholarship fund was established in 2005 to support families experiencing financial or personal difficulties with their child’s education.
Sierra Leone grammar school is committed to ensuring excellence can flourish regardless of financial, social or health challenges at home. Loss of employment or housing, separation, sickness or loss of a loved one can cause unexpected financial difficulties - our GaT Scholarships are designed to support students through these hardships, ensuring our brightest young minds are given the best chance to flourish 6% of SLGS pupils are directly funded by initiatives overseen by SLGS’s global Old Boys’ Associations. Scholarships help cover everything from fees to school uniforms, books and even when required, an allowance.
