SLGS OBA UK XMAS 2020 VIRTUAL Event – Are – All Regentonian Evening

At the end of every year, we at SLGS OBA UK like to organise an end of year party where we meet each other, have fun and most importantly raise funds for our scholarship and STEM courses through donations and ticket purchases. This event is quite popular and would have been widely attended by many alumni and friends, however, due to the Covid restrictions we decided to make it a virtual event and focus on raising money for the renovation of the science labs at the School. The science building which houses six labs is in a very bad state and in desperate need of repairs. There is no source of electricity or running water, the windows are broken and the roof leaks badly whenever it rains. This leakage caused damage to the furniture and equipment and one of the things we wanted to support with this event was to refurbish the lab so that students can work in the right environment for learning and with the correct equipment.

The event in itself was free but to raise funds, we organised a raffle and encouraged attendees to buy tickets to participate and also donate. It was held on the 27th of December, 2020 with 700+ unique attendees on Zoom! There were 7 DJs lined up to ensure the party started at 5:30pm and did not end until 4:30am the following day. The party was interspersed with music, short speeches, fundraising pitches from each house, the SLGS roll call, the Regentonians Xmas raffle. Some past students and teachers also shared reflections and experiences of their time at the School. Based on the feedback received, the roll call, raffle and DJ’s party session were the big highlights of the night!

The party in itself was a huge success with 7 DJ’s on rotation but DJ 2Smooth knocked the game out of the park. He got the audience engaged until 04:30am in the  morning and when the admin was ready to end the party, about 175 people objected!
At the end of the event, there were 28 raffle prize winners, from the UK, Europe and the Americas. A total of £1,520 was raised from the raffles. Click here to view the raffle details. List of raffle prizes include:

The SLGS global alumni take pride that over the years they have delivered on their promises and have supported the School to complete  numerous projects. We would like to extend the same support to complete the science labs. The labs are expected to be available to other schools for joint teaching lessons as well as practical examination classes. You may be aware the SLGS is an examination centre for secondary schools in the  area and these improved standards will set the tone for improvements at other schools in the country.
Your donations will help transform the flood damaged classrooms from its current state to the standards we expect to see in modern day classrooms. We need to ensure as a nation we keep at pace with other developing nations and your donations today will make this possible.
