On 23rd June 2023, the Regentonians of the Sierra Leone Grammar School Old Boys Network (SLGS OBA), convened with their counterparts from SLGS’s sister school, the Annie Walsh Memorial School Old Girls Association (AWOGA) for a night of music, dance, delicious food and friendship. The event, held at the Wandsworth Town Hall in London, was also the perfect opportunity to launch their collaborative Each One, Teach One campaign.
Each One, Teach One is a combined effort between the Regentonians and the AWOGANS to utilise the invaluable ICT facilities at SLGS to push for lasting educational change in the region. The campaign seeks to offer mentorships to all children in Sierra Leone who have no access to technology. So far, 160 pupils have been nominated from schools across the country and have participated in a STEM Summer Club. It is our hope that this will gradually develop vital STEM skills across Sierra Leone’s pupil population and empower female education in traditionally male-dominated areas such as coding, as well as enhancing the region’s digital literacy.
The initiative aims to embed ICT and STEM skills from the very beginning of all Sierra Leonean children’s learning journeys, putting in place measures that will be felt for generations, with an impact not just in Sierra Leone, but in wider West Africa. Making good on the brightest potential is a massive challenge. The legacy of a ten-year civil war and continuing global inequality means that across West Africa, the great talents of tomorrow are at a disadvantage. Through collaborative digital outreach, we can reduce that disadvantage
In Wandsworth, the AnnieGramms extravaganza started off with the campaign launch and, with the help of our talented MCs, bloomed into a night of fun, dance and music. With live concerts and performances from musicians within the SLGS and AWMS network, as well as DJs spinning only the best tunes, the party went on well into the night. The Masters of Ceremony for the night were SLGS alumni and 2022 TES Headteacher of the Year, Arthur Barzy and Margaret Stevens, Alumni and Business Consultant at AWMS
We would like to thank all executives of AWOGA and SLGS OBA for organising such a memorable event. We hope that this wonderful night will be the start of many great and meaningful collaborations to come.
